An elderly driver managed to escape without major injuries when his car flipped onto its roof in Monday morning traffic.

The man, believed to be in his late 80s, was driving a red Pontiac when it crashed on Woodlands Road at its junction with Clifton Drive in Ansdell at around 10.10am.

The main road was closed while police cleared the scene and traffic was diverted along Lake Road.
