Sowing the seeds for new era at ambitious AFC Fylde

Work has started on the laying of the pitch as work continues apace on AFC Fylde's new £18m Mill Farm stadium.

As the club aims for promotion to the National League via the play-offs, workers from Ribble Valley-based turf specialists Danvic have moved on to the Wesham site to prepare the ground for the grass which will stage its first game in July.

Danvic managing director Richard Sharrock said: “The pitch area has been levelled out and first job after that was the formation of a soil sub-base.

“Next up is the laying of the carrier drains, which should take a couple of days, and then the lateral drains, which is a further few days.

“Once the drainage is in then we start on the rootzone carpet, which makes up the finished playing surface.

“We grow the seeds into that carpet and at the same time a full irrigation system goes in.

“The whole process doesn’t take too long but it’s very dependant on the weather.

“Thankfully it’s been decent recently so we are making good progress.”

Meanwhile, the bars in Bradley’s Sports Bar, which it is aimed to have open in time for the Euro 2016 tournament next month, are starting to take shape on the ground floor, along with the cafe.

The plastering in the bar and cafe are 90 per cent complete, the TV wall to the far left of the bar has been formed and will eventually house a giant multi-screen TV.
