All new to this year’s St George’s Day Festival is the inaugural St George’s Golf Tournament.

Held at Lytham St Annes Old Links on April 24, the four-ball tournament is open to players of all abilities.

As a charity event, the St George’s Day Festival relies heavily on its dedicated supporters, the main sponsor for the day is packaging company Cardboard Box.

Peter Street, chairman of the firm, said: “ I am delighted to be involved with such an event and am thoroughly looking forward to what is sure to be a fantastic day of golf all for a great cause.”

The tournament will be a celebration of St George’s Day, the purpose of which is to raise proceeds for the event’s charities.

Members of the ‘On Course Foundation,’ an organisation which strives to create work experience opportunities within the golf industry through golf skills and training, to help injured war heroes get back on course will also be in attendance.

The format is a four-ball tournament and is open to players of ranging abilities.

Following the round refreshments will be provided in St Annes Old Links Clubhouse.

Prizes for the winning team, longest drive and nearest to the pin will be eagerly contested, in what promises to be a competitive day of golf.

Event organiser Mick Threlfall said: “I am pleased to have been able to secure the first St George’s Day Golf event at such a marvellous venue as St Annes Old Links.

“I’m sure the Golf Day is an event which will go on to gain momentum year on year, much like the festival itself.”
