A KEY figure in the accommodation of thousands of visitors for the forthcoming Open Golf Championship has hit out at the unsightly state of one of the area’s key transport gateways.

Diana Lever, a director of JGL Operations, official agents for housing for The Open on behalf of tournament organisers the R&A, has slammed parts of Lytham railway station as “an absolute eyesore”.

She is especially concerned at the look of the long-unused platform at the station, where efforts by Fylde and Lancashire County Councils and local groups to improve its look have been delayed by difficulties in gaining permission for access.
