A carnival queen is hosting an event which it is hoped will suit her twin charities to a tee – by proving a welcome boost to their coffers.
Zara Harris, who has already raised more than £4,000 for her twin charities of her year as St Annes Carnival Queen, is staging a golf tournament at the Mini-Links course on the resort’s seafront on Monday evening.
It will involve pairs, which can be made up of various combinations of adults or children – and players of all abilities are invited to take part.
Making the most of the fact that the change to British Summertime this weekend will herald lighter evenings, the tournament is due to start at 5pm and prizes will be awarded in various sections, covering teams of two adults, an adult and a child under 14 and two youngsters.
It costs £15 per pair to take part and proceeds will go to Zara’s twin charities, Home-Start Fylde and the neo-natal unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, for which she has already raised more than £4,000.
“It should be great fun and I hope to see plenty of people there,” said 11-year-old Zara, a pupil at Heyhouses School, St Annes.
Zara’s mum Carlla, who sits on the Carnival committee, said officials had been delighted with the amount raised for the two charities so far and were very much looking forward to the golf evening proving a further boost to the total.
“The emphasis will be very much on the fun side of golf but there will be prizes for the winners and runners-up in each section and we have already had plenty of interest,” she said.
“The mini-links is a wonderful facility and we are very grateful to Andrew Tracey and the team there for making the venue available for this event.”
