IT has been together less than a year, but a Fylde wildlife group is the proud winner of a national award.

The Wildlife Watch Group, at Park View, Lytham, has been named Best New Wildlife Watch Group of the Year.

The team received the Royal Society of Wildlife Trust trophy, together with garden centre vouchers and a certificate signed by naturalist and BBC TV presenter Chris Packham.

Julie Norman, Park View ranger and Wildlife Watch leader, said: “We are delighted to win the award as it reflects the enthusiasm and hard work put in by all the volunteers who run the group.

“We have really enjoyed coming up with new and exciting ways to get children to engage with their local environment and discover the wildlife that is on their doorstep.

“We look forward to spending our vouchers on something to encourage even more wildlife to the park.”

The group only started a year ago but it already has a keen group of young members aged five to 13, who attend the club to learn about wildlife and their environment.

Voting for the award took place in January and judges praised the Lytham group.

Comments included: “Examples of activities in the competition were original and engaging – both for the children and the spectators they attracted.”

Another judge added: “Looks like a fun group to go to and that it is a great Wildife Watch group of which you should be proud.”
