The body of an elderly woman washed up on the beach at South Shore this morning.
Police were called to the sand opposite the New Mayfair Hotel, between the mirror ball and the tram sheds, at around 9.55am.
The woman has not been named, but a spokesman for the force said she was in her 70s and from St Annes.
He added: "Next of kin have been informed. At this time, the death is not being treated as suspicious."
Coastguard workers from Lytham attended shortly before 10.30am and helped secure the scene and search for evidence.
They then helped transport the body to a private ambulance waiting nearby, it was understood.
The Coastguard was also called to help search for a despondent woman close to Central Pier at around 8.20pm yesterday.
She was not found and an extensive search was scaled back at around 2.30am, but the two incidents are not thought to be linked.
