Work will start next month on a £55,000 new look for an Ansdell play area.

Council workers will move onto Lansdowne Road Park on July 8 after volunteers raised the cash for new play equipment, safety surfacing, new landscaping, seating and fencing.

Friends@thepark volunteers started raising the money with a fun day two years ago. Other contributions have now been received from Lancashire Environment Fund, Lancashire County Council, Fylde Council and the former Fylde Local Strategic Partnership.

Works have already included tree and bulb planting and the installation of a bench. Next month’s work, expected to last for four weeks, will include a comprehensive range of modern play equipment including a timber-framed zipwire, two climbing frames, swings, a seesaw, roundabout and springers as well as a picnic area, a new path from the road and an extension of the existing path to the play area from adjacent Ansdell Primary School.

Tracy Morrison, Friends@thepark member, said: “It’s been a tremendous journey for members who have had to raise money and involve as many people as possible. We’ve asked people what they want the refurbished park to have and then we’ve had plans drawn up to reflect that.”
