FLEETWOOD Town continue their pre-season with a visit to AFC Fylde this Saturday following two away wins and a single defeat at the hands of Blackpool.
The Championship side took the honours in a close-run 2-1 victory with goals from Stephen McPhail and Ben Burgess. Town replied with a penalty from former Seasider, Jamie Milligan in front of 1,42 spectators.
"The pitch is in good condition and play
ed well. The redevelopment of the ground is good to see. Obviously Fleetwood Town are trying to keep progressing as a football club," said Simon Grayson after the game. "We have strong roots with Fleetwood and are coming back here with the reserves again in the new season. Hopefully Fleetwood will keep progressing following another successful year," added the Seasiders boss.
The Blue Square North club notched up victories away at Freckleton and Warren Beattie ensured the away form continued with a hat-trick in the 3-1 win at AFC Blackpool.
It was the first outing for AFC Blackpool since changing their name recently from Blackpool Mechanics.
"Pre-season games are an ideal opportunity for players to test themselves. Training is not sufficient on it's own and they need matches. Nothing compares to playing for match fitness," said Fleetwood chairman Andy Pilley.
"It's frustrating to see us picking up a few knocks. I'm sure (manager) Tony Greenwood will let me know if he needs to bring anyone else in on a temporary or full-time basis," added Pilley.
Kick-off is at 3pm this Saturday, July 19. It is the first AFC Fylde pre-season friendly for the FA Vase winners. Match Admission is £5 Adults, £3 Seniors Over 60, Juniors 8-15 are £2. Turnstiles open from 2pm.
