KIRKHAM & WESHAM FC's players enjoyed a taste of the Wembley experience prior to their big date in the FA Vase Final on May 11, writes HOWARD JONES.
A delegation from the high-flying Vodkat League club were invited down by the FA to familiarise themselves with the new home of English football before taking on Lowestoft Town beneath the huge Wembley arch.
"It was a fantastic experience," said captain Dougie Shaw, who was cautious when asked to put his hands on the trophy for a photo opportunity.
He added:"There was no way I was going to tempt fate by doing that. I'll settle for that experience after the game and not before."
It was a welcome break from Kirkham's hectic league programme as division two games come thick and fast in their promotion bid.
After Saturday's postponement at Stone added to the congestion, Kirkham strengthened their grip on the second promotion spot with a 6-0 victory at Ashton Town on Tuesday.
A derby at Darwen tonight (Thursday) will be followed by a home clash with promotion rivals Oldham on Saturday.
