BRAGGING rights for non-league football on the Fylde will be at stake on Saturday July 19, when Fleetwood Town visit FA Vase winners AFC Fylde for a pre-season warm-up match, writes Howard Jones.
Fresh from their Wembley heroics on Sunday under their former name of Kirkham and Wesham FC, manager Mick Fuller has moved quickly to pencil in a friendly against Fleetwood, who are also celebrating promotion.
Fuller said: "Pre-season games are important to us and this should be a cracker."
Kirkham have plans to play both Blackpool and Bamber Bridge in their build-up to their first season in Vodkat division one.
And there are plans also to visit FA Vase semi-finalists Whitley Bay, who were favourites to beat Lowestoft Town and so go through to play Kirkham &Wesham at Wembley.
Fuller forged good relations with the Geordie outfit during the club's Wembley build-up and sees this as an ideal test for his side, ahead of what he hopes will be another successful season.
He added:"A meaningful pre-season can get you off the blocks and running for when the league campaign kicks-in."
AFC Fylde will also have FA Cup aspirations in 2008-09 and are likely to have to play some early preliminary rounds, while it is expected that they will miss the early rounds of the FA Vase next season following Sunday's epic 2-1 win over Lowestoft at Wembley.
Other pre-season encounters could include games against Curzon Ashton, seasoned European campaigners The New Saints of the Welsh Premier League, Crowborough Athletic of the Ryman League and Kendal Town.
A DVD is being produced highlighting the club's amazing three-day build-up to the FA Vase Final, together with the game itself and all the after-match celebrations, reception and parade.
Copies will be on sale within two weeks but fans wishing to order this souvenir, priced £10, can do so at the club shop on Poulton Street.
