Sophie soars to a sprint double

BLACKPOOL Wyre and Fylde Athletics Club were runners-up to Blackburn Harriers in the National Young Athletes League match at the Stanley Park Arena.

Lucy Mansfield and Lytham schoolgirl Sophie Riley both achieved sprint doubles, with Lucy taking the under-17 100m in a fine 12.30secs and the 200m in 25.3, while Sophie clocked 12.7 for the under-15 100m and 26.1 for the 200m.
Beth Towers was also a double winner for the under-15 girls, taking the 75m hurdles title in 11.9 and the long jump with 4.95m.
Other winners at Stanley Park were as follows
Under-17: Tom Barran shot 10.52m; Declan O'Hara pole vault 3.60m; Alex Billington triple jump 12.00m; Kristie Leybourne 800m 2:23.4; Katy Wyper long jump 5.38m.
Under-15: Matt Walker pole vault 2.10m; Lydia Critchley 800m 2:24.6; Bianca Pedersen 1500m 4:55.7; Megan Sweet high jump 1.40m; Natalie Yates javelin 19.53;.
Under-13: Finn Walker long jump 4.51m, Jodie Ferguson 800m 2:37.7; Taegan O'Hara 70m hurdles 12.5; Rebecca Todd shot 7.50m.
BW&F finished third in the latest Mid Lancs track and field league fixture at Preston Sports Arena last weekend.
They have also slipped to third in division one, overtaken by Preston Harriers, who were comfortable winners by 35 points.
The ladies finished the day just six points short of the host club and still lead their first division by 274 points.
Liz Hodgson was third in the senior women's 800m in 2:31.4.
The under-17s produced four winners, with Kirkham schoolgirl Lucy Mansfield again dominating the 100m sprint event with 12.70.
For the men, there were three field winners: Declan O'Hara in the long jump with 5.95m, James Davies in the triple jump (12.81m) and Tom Baran in the hammer (33.45m).
The under 15 girls produced a further four winners: Alicia Johnson in the 300m with a superb 42.90, Lauren Gowland in the 800m with 2:25.6 and Bianca Pedersen in the 1500m with 4:50.
Chloe Needham was a comfortable winner in the discus with 25.80m, while Lewis Arbon triumphed in the high jump with 1.65m and the javelin with 39.65m.
Tash Gardner easily won the under-13 sprint double with 13.8 for the 100m and 28.4 for the 200m.
Jodie Ferguson was an easy winner in the 800m in 2:32.8, while Lyndsay O'Brien won the javelin with 24.03m and Luis Blyth won the long jump with 4.41m.
