Youth football round-up: Blackpool and Poulton leagues

Layton Under-13s' lead at the top of the Alpha Silver Division in the Gold Bond Blackpool and District Youth Football League has been cut after they could only draw with bottom side Lytham Blues.

Ben Steveley hit the back of the net for the league leaders, while Archie Kirkham grabbed Blues’ goal.

But second-placed Thornton Cleveleys Whites also dropped points as they drew 3-3 with FC Rangers.

Adam Meadows, Max Swarbrick and Jadyn Walsh scored for the Whites, while Matthew Guy (2) and Ryan Henson were on the target for Rangers.

BJFF Vipers took full advantage of the slip-ups as goals from Harley Man (2), James Coulter, James Roper and Jake Wilson helped them to a 5-1 win against Foxhall Hoops, with Connor Satchell getting their goal.

Dominic Turner’s hat- trick set Kirkham Reds on their way to a 5-3 win against Lytham Maroons.

Brett Higginson also scored, with Finlay Best, Leo Rodikis and Kallum Illingworth replying for the Maroons.

In the Under-13 Alpha Gold Division, BJFF Blades remain unbeaten at the top after a hat-trick from Spencer Phillips and further goals by Harrison Giggal and Matthew Finney gave them a 5-0 victory at Poulton.

Hat-tricks from Kaiden Shorrocks and Harry Melia set second-placed Foxhall on their way to a comprehensive 10-2 win against Kirkham Blues. Lewis Derome, Bradley Norman, Dylan Henshall and Aiden Wright also scored, with Fraser Burton and Lewis Weaver replying for Kirkham.

YMCA beat Thornton Cleveleys Reds 5-2. Despite two key players missing through illness, YMCA were able to produce their best performance of the season.

They started brightly and had much more of the play in the opening stages and it was no surprise when they went ahead in the 10th minute, with Gabriel Ward firing home following some good work by Ben Elliott.

Harry Dyer doubled their lead five minutes later, with a superb strike from 20 yards after some fine play by Noah Simister.

YMCA remained on top and Jay Ormond netted twice with composed finishes before Thornton reduced the deficit on the stroke of half- time thanks to Fraser Hasllas’ strike, making it 4-1 at the interval.

The visitors further reduced the deficit soon after the restart, Hallas again on target.

But YMCA continued to have the upper hand and soon added a fifth goal, with Keaton Adams latching on to a long ball down the middle. After controlling it with his chest, he found the top corner with a spectacular volley.

Charlie Nixon was outstanding throughout for YMCA, with Ward, Adams and Oliver Williamson all making fine contributions to an excellent team display.

Goals from Taylor Joyce (2), Zane Seddon, Jordan Rankine, Mathew Tomlinson and Dylan Alunan gave Fleetwood Town a 9-0 win at Squires Gate.

In the U16 section, the top two went head to head, with the points being shared.

Lytham retained top spot with a hard-fought draw against second-placed Poulton.

In a tight first half of few chances, neither side managed to break the deadlock.

The game remained even in the second half until Max Older scored after a fine solo run and a one-two with Alex Price.

Poulton equalised midway through the second half through Max Resina. Neither side was able to add to the scoring, the draw being the fair result.

James Ludlam and Ollie Seers were impressive for Lytham.

Goals from Jake McVeigh, Adam Cosgrove and Luke Marshall gave Blackpool Rangers Seasiders a 3-2 win over Warton Typhoons, for whom William Carter and Liam Gerrity replied.

A James Findlay hat-trick and a further strike from Will Critchley gave Kirkham a 4-0 win at St Annes Greens, while Tyler Davison scored for Spirit of Youth in their 1-1 draw with Layton, for whom Jack Smith replied.

In the U18 section, Foxhall remain unbeaten at the top after goals from Charlie Allan (2), Bradley (2), Dale (2) and Connor Smith gave them a 7-1 win at Warton Typhoons, from whom Quaid Henderson replied.

Goals from Joe Murray (2) and an own goal gave Staining a great 3-3 draw at Fleetwood Town, and St Annes beat Foxhall Hoops 6-1 thanks to four goals from Sam Ackril and further goals from Ollie Smith and Luke Holland. Dan Holt replied for a depleted Foxhall.

Foxhall U14s edged a seven-goal thriller against AFC Blackpool in the group stages of the Poulton and District Primary League’s Coulton Plate.

The home side ran out 4-3 winners thanks to goals from Rio Louth, Brady Johnson and Rob Fitzpatrick.

Foxhall U15s also had a successful weekend in the cup as they beat Spirit of Youth 3-2 away from home (see previous pages).

YMCA U15s were in league action but returned from their long trip to Fleetwood Town with nothing to show for their efforts, going down to a 3-1 defeat.

The hosts had the edge in the first half and held a 2-0 lead at the interval.

However, YMCA produced a much-improved display in the second period and soon reduced the arrears with a fine strike by Jake Molloy.

They continued on the front foot in search of an equaliser but Fleetwood put the game beyond doubt with a third goal in the closing minutes.

Olly Fishwick impressed for YMCA, with Harvey Shaw also producing a fine performance.
