Door open for Lewis return

FYLDE rugby club, who have an attractive home clash with Coventry tomorrow, are in talks with forward Adam Lewis about a possible return to the Woodlands.

Lewis, a former England under-18 schools international, had a previous spell with Fylde before leaving to join Sedgley Park.

Latterly he has been playing in the 13-a-side code with Eccleston RL club.

Lewis can play up front or at flanker.

Fylde coach Mark Nelson said: “We are talking to Adam - he has been playing with Eccleston, but their season has finished now.

“He is having a think after we spoke to him and we should know more after the weekend.”

Fylde take on a Coventry side tomorrow rivals with whom they have a long tradition of close competition - true to type, both clubs go into tomorrow’s encounter on 23 points in National League One.

Nelson said: “It is even-Stephen between us in the league and Coventry will be a very competitive side.

“It is one of the traditional fixtures in our calendar.

“When the fixtures were announced at the start of the season, Fylde always used to look out for the dates when we played the likes of Coventry, Sale and Gosforth.”

Fylde will give a fitness test to second rower Roger Banks, who has been nursing a hamstring strain.

Nelson said: “We will see how he is, and if he doesn’t make it then we will have to have a re-shuffle.”

Former skipper Sam Beaumont is still sidelined with hip injury, with brother Josh was not considered because of a shoulder injury.

Jonny Roddam is available again after missing the win at Cambridge last Saturday.

He returns on the bench, with Alex Loney maintaining his place in the starting line-up after impressing against Cambridge.

Goal-kicker Chris Johnson plays in the centre, with Scott Barrow continuing at fly-half.

Fylde: C Briers; Viney, S Briers, Johnson, Brennand; Barrow, De La Harpe; Birchall, Loney, Lavelle, Banks, Arnold, Vernon, McGinnis, Stewart. Replacements: Altham, Roddam, Maher, Wallwork Spragg.

Kick-off 3pm.
