The first running of the Lytham Windmill Half-Marathon for 25 years attracted over 350 runners from throughout the UK.

Run on a two-lap course, starting and finishing at The Fairhaven Lake Cafe, the strong wind took its toll on times.

Nevertheless a good race developed between local rivals Charlie Pass of Wesham Road Runners and evergreen veteran Paul Muller.

They pair broke away after five miles and eventually agreed to share the spoils and finish together in 1hr, 18mins, 14 secs.

They tossed a coin to decide who took the first prize at the presentation and Pass won.

Halifax Harrier Ryan Barker took a deserved third place.

Wesham’s Robert Danson was fourth (1:21.41) and Joe Greenwood of Lytham St Annes Road Runners sixth (1:24.18)

First lady to finish was Keswick AC veteran Samantha Ayers in a very good 1:32.05, with rising star Emma Lund of Wesham second and Danielle Jepson third.

The organisers wish to thank Fylde Borough Council and Fairhaven Lake Cafe, Tesco, P&G Bargains and St Teresa’s FC for marshalling the route.
