THE countdown has started already to a remarkable challenge being undertaken by four Fylde rugby players, past and present.
They are set for a spell of ‘capital’ punishment by running non-stop from London to Fylde RFC’s Woodlands ground – all 250 miles of it – in aid of a charitable foundation.
The quartet of Mark Evans, Aodhan Carson, Jeavon Trend and Matt Wilkinson will set off on their laborious journey on August 2.
They are raising funds for the Ben Trend Get Involved Foundation.
It was set up in memory of Ben Trend, a former Fylde player, who died at the age of 30 in an accident in South Africa.
In his short life, Ben raised over £25,000 for charity and the good work has been carried on courtesy of the foundation set up in his memory.
Money raised goes to help sport in the Blackpool and Fylde area and in South West London, where Ben spent his last eight years e.
One of the runners, Jeavon Trend, is Ben’s brother.
Fellow runner Evans said: “To say it is an epic challenge is an understatement!
“We have all been involved in ultra-endurance events before but this really is taking it to the extreme.
“We are running the 250 miles as a paired relay, so each of us will run at least 125 to 130 miles each within the 48 hours.”
Carson, like Evans a former first teamer at Fylde, is the grandson of the late comedian Frank Carson.
Endurance training has already started for the fearless foursome.
