FLANKER Evan Stewart warmed up for a return to his old club Macclesfield on Saturday with four tries for Fylde against Tynedale – and then revealed it was not the first time he had acheived the outstanding feat.

The former Macclesfield skipper said: “Deadly from six inches, that’s me!

“I scored four tries on one of my first games for Loughborough as well, but it is still a special thing to do any time, especially on Saturday to get the show back on the road.

Fylde returned to winning ways with a 39-28 Woodlands win after three successive defeats in National One and Stewart said: “That was important and it didn’t matter who scored the tries.

“It was just a case of winning this game and getting back on the road.”

Fylde let slip a commanding lead and Stewart admitted: “We played like two different teams.

“Going forward and attacking them we were brilliant, but in defence for ten minutes we fell off tackles and we didn’t play the way we should have.

“We didn’t keep it tight, but we know what we have to work on and we will put it right for the next match with a big week of training.”

Stewart is fit again after an ankle injury, but he made a quicker than expected recovery.

He said: “I am more than happy to be back playing, especially with the Macclesfield match coming up.

“That was my aim, so to get two games under my belt is brilliant.

“For me at Macclesfield it will be a special day, but we just need to focus on winning the game.

“I could get all emotional or charged up for it, but I have to look at it as just another game, in which we have to do what we need to do to win it.

“It was a very hard decision to leave Macclesfield - they may not be my friends this week, but hopefully I will be able to shake a few hands afterwards and be on the right end of a result.”

Centre Stephen Briers missed the Tynedale match after turning his ankle in training and he will be assessed during the week.
