PLANS have been submitted by major supermarket chain Aldi for the demolition of the Conservative Club.
The German outfit have handed in proposals to planning officials for the redevelopment of the social club, along with St Anthony's house on St Georges Road.

Aldi bought the historic St Annes Conservative Club building on Clifton Drive North in April 2006.

Little progress had been made since then, prompting rumours that Aldi would be pulling out of the venture.

However, plans have now been submitted and are expected to be given the green light in the summer.

The Express revealed several weeks ago that the store would definitely be opening in St Annes next year, but the company could not give any timescales

Aldi put the delay in finalising the plans down to the unique nature of the store.

The German retailer hopes to build a 16,000 sq ft store with a new Conservative Club and apartments above it, as well as parking below.

Today's Vote

Do you think Fylde Council is wrong to disregard the poll which is in favour of saving St Annes baths?
Yes, they should listen to the electorate
No, because if they don't have enough money to run the pool, it is inevitable it has to shut
