THIS weekend will see part of St Annes' beach turned into Twickenham - as Fylde rugby fans tackle a beach rugby tournament.
Fylde Borough Council is welcoming the tournament, organised by Fylde Rugby Club, to the beach on Saturday.

The tournament is open to all members of the public who have already entered teams to fill the day with exciting contests.

This is the second time the competition has taken to the beach near to the pier. Last year the beach was filled with players of all ages enjoying the fast paced, non-contact game.

This year the plan is to attract even more players to take part in what is fast becoming one of the most popular summer beach games. A move Fylde Borough council welcomes.

Coun Simon Renwick, cabinet member for culture and tourism at Fylde Borough Council said: "We are delighted that the Fylde Rugby Club has once again chosen to stage such an exciting event on St Annes Beach. The soft sands that we are popular for lend themselves perfectly for the sport and we welcome this use of the area.

"We expect plenty of spectators on the beach for the competition which was very successful at drawing in visitors to the area last year."

The games start at 10.30am on Saturday 12 July and are free for spectators to come along and watch.
