FYLDE'S community champions have been rewarded in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.
Three residents were recognised for their work in the borough.

Lytham campaigner Mary Wilson, who has worked tirelessly to raise cash for the town's Park View4U project, was given an MBE for services to the community.

The 67-year-old mother of three helped raised close to £1m to refurbish the playing fields on Park View Road.

The money, which was obtained from lottery grants and other donations, has transformed a neglected field into a popular play area which is helping to keep youngsters off the streets.

She said: "This is a huge honour for me. I love Lytham and love Park View.
"Every time I walk through those new gates I get a thrill.
"In the past decade we have done so much to the land and to get this honour is a massive achievement."

Local man Colin Holt was also given an MBE for services to the community.

Colin has been a member of the Lytham St Annes Lions Club, who raise thousands of pounds for good causes, for more than 30 years, as well as doing voluntary work for the Lions Club Housing Association and the Inland Revenue, and serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Fylde YMCA.

He was also a member of Lytham Community Association, which was heavily involved in negotiations to buy the sports centre at Lytham from the Guardian Royal Exchange and transform it into a facility for the whole community.

He said: "It makes you very pleased and proud to have what you've done acknowledged in this way - that it recognises all the differing aspects of work that I have been involved in and that I am still involved in.
"I have had considerable business experience at senior management level and if I can use that to help make a contribution to the community then that's great.
"The citation reads that it's for services to the community of Lytham St Annes and that's what I'm most pleased about - we love the town and we love living here."

Bernard Unsworth, 68, was also rewarded with an MBE for services to the Independent Monitoring Board at HMP Kirkham, for his contunined commitment to staff and prisoners.

The IMB, which is chaired by Bernard, is made up of ordinairy members of the public who volunteer to help monitor the day to day life in the prison and ensure that proper standards of care and decency are maintained.

Board members also play an important role in dealing with problems inside the prison and work with the establishment to raise any matters of concern.

He said: "It was a complete surprise, as an independent volunteer you don't normally expect these things to come your way.

"We talk to the prisoners on a regular basis and make sure that things are okay while they are in prison."
