St Annes Councillor Karen Buckley has launched a campaign against speeding traffic.
Since her election in May 2007 Coun buckley has received a number of complaints from residents within St Leonard's Ward about speeding in the area, particularly on Frobisher Drive.
The issue has been raised on a regular basis at monthly St Leonard's Ward PACT meetings and now Coun Buckley believes that the time has now come to tackle the issue.
She said: "Excessive speeding in our town is not being adequately addressed. Calls to Lancashire County Council for traffic calming measures have fallen on deaf ears because the areas are not yet deemed accident hot spots.
She added: "It's ridiculous that the County Council want to wait until there is an accident. Fylde's Community Safety Partnership have provided two further speed indicator devices and their support is welcomed, as is the excellent support we have had from St Annes Police Sgt Paul Fowler, who will be working with us to combat offenders. I would encourage as many people as possible to join in the 'SLOW DOWN in our Town' campaign."
If you want to volunteer or want to find out more about the campaign, contact Coun Buckley on (01253) 725510 or go to www.karenbuckley.info.
Alternatively you can come along to the Community Safety Partnership Question Time on Thursday 27 November 2008 at 6.30pm at the United Reformed Church Hall, St Georges Road, St Annes
