Swimwear, fake tan and diamond tiaras – the final of Miss Blackpool is back.
Three Fylde women are vying for the coveted title, which was won last year by Kendall Rae-Knight from Newton.
Jenna Howard, 24, of Lytham, Kendall’s sister Kassidy Knight, 19, of Newton and 23-year-old Keely Atkinson-Sutton of Wrea Green hope to be crowned this year’s winner.
The bevy of beauties spent an evening relaxing at Ribby Hall’s Spa Hotel, in Wrea Green, ahead of the grand final which is held tomorrow at the Hilton Hotel, Blackpool.
It will be an extra special occasion, as this year marks the contest’s 60th anniversary.
The competition was in its heyday during the holiday camp days of the 1960s, but in more recent times, the pageant has been modernised and re-vitalised by Angels Elite Models and Promotions, who have been producing the contest for the last 17 years.
The changes included moving the Miss Blackpool heats to mid-week evenings, opening the contest up to 18 and 30-year-olds and allowing married women and women with children to enter the contest.
Competitors are judged on their suitability for representing Blackpool as an ambassador – whether that be in film or print for the media, or by personal appearances.
The finalists are marked out of 20 in each category – beauty, deportment and personality – beauty does not refer to a particular size, shape or look, but a general healthy look and appeal.
