Tickets for top comic John Bishop’s appearance at Lowther Pavilion have been snapped up in just an hour and 40 minutes.

The eager demand for the 457 seats available at £15 each saw queues form well ahead of the box office’s 9am opening time and the final ticket had been sold by 10.40.

It shattered the previous record sellout time of three hours for Jason Manford’s gig at the Lytham theatre last year.

Lowther manager Mark Alexander said; “We are all very excited and looking forward to John Bishop’s visit. It is a real coup for us – a unique opportunity to see him up close in a small venue on the Fylde coast.”

Bishop’s date at Lowther on July 1 is part of the hugely-popular funnyman’s Work In Progress warm-up tour, taking in 20 dates at 13 venues ahead of his Supersonic arena tour comprising 40 dates at 17 venues, ending in Liverpool in December. The arena tour has already sold out in Brighton and Plymouth and extra dates have been announced in
Manchester, Cardiff, Bournemouth, Birmingham and at Wembley Arena.

The Bishop coup continues the trend of comedy gaining an ever higher profile at Lowther. Following Ruby Wax’s sellout show last Friday, also to appear at the venue between now and the Bishop appearance are: Jethro on April 17, Omid Djalili on May 13, Mick Miller on May 26 and Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown on June 27.

Tim Lince, acting chairman of the Lowther Trust, added: “One of the trustees, Dan Creasey, has a particular interest in trying to attract top name comedians and has been on a mission over the last few years to sell the venue to the promoters and managers.

“It is through his work and that of manager Mark that John has agreed to play at the Lowther and we are all
delighted.”
