It’s not often a star as big as John Bishop makes a live appearance in Lytham.
So the Fylde Coast Players were asked to move the dress rehearsal of their latest production scheduled for the same evening as the TV comic’s gig at Lowther Pavilion, they readily agreed.
The local am-dram group is staging Alan Ayckbourn’s comedy Round And Round The Garden at the theatre for four nights from July 2, immediately following Bishop’s July 1 show, tickets for which sold out in less than two hours.
Normally, the evening immediately before a show would have been dedicated to a dress rehearsal – but the Players were happy to bring that forward 24 hours to accommodate the comedian’s sellout show.
Rosemary Roe, director of Round and Round The Garden, explained: “Lowther’s manager Mark Alexander asked if we didn’t mind leaving the theatre free on the evening of Tuesday, July 1.
“We knew John Bishop would be a big attraction for local audiences so we decided to change the dress rehearsal to the previous day.”
Mark Alexander added: “Thanks to the Players for agreeing to move their dress rehearsal which allowed us the opportunity to book John Bishop.
“We hope there will be longer-term benefits to the town by raising awareness of Lowther Pavilion to a wider public which will enable us to bring more big-name acts to Lytham in the future.”
