Blackpool's Grand Theatre is to receive £680,000 from Arts Council England for two new projects.
The money has been granted from the Ambition For Excellence fund, set up to 'stimulate and support ambition, talent and excellence in the arts' - with a focus away from London.
In partnership with LeftCoast, the Grand will commission two new pieces of work, with internationally-renowned artists as well as local talent, to take place this year and next.
This year the team will work with dreamthinkspeak, which last created a new work in the North West as part of Liverpool's Capital of Culture celebrations in 2008.
And in 2017, there will be a 're-imagining of the King Kong story' in a number of locations around the resort.
Grand Theatre chief executive Ruth Eastwood said: “We don’t want to give too much away just now.
"These are big and important projects that will help consolidate Blackpool’s growing reputation as a place with culture at its heart; celebrating the uniqueness of this amazing town and offering new and different artistic experiences to people, young and old. Now the hard work starts to create something really special.”
