Comedy favourite Bobby Ball returns to the stage this week, with his new play.

The comedian-turned-actor will appear in and has directed his own new work The Dressing Room with a classic line-up, at Lowther Pavilion on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

I’m very pleased with The Dressing Room, and my cast are fantastic, I was so thrilled to get them all on board

The St Annes-based favourite will be joined by his double act partner Tommy Cannon, as well as Stu Francis, Johnnie Casson and Kate Robbins for the premiere of the ‘play-riety’ show.

Combining each of their variety act skills, with a backstage plot, The Dressing Room will then tour the North West after its Lytham opening.

One by one, the cast each make their performance before returning to the activity of the dressing room where gossip and misunderstandings continue.

The audience gets to see what goes on both sides of the curtains and what a performer goes through behind the scenes.

Bobby said: “I’m very pleased with The Dressing Room, and my cast are fantastic, I was so thrilled to get them all on board.

“There’s a split stage, where one half’s on the stage and the other’s in the dressing room.

“It comes out that Jimmy Laugh – the comedian, played by Johnnie Casson – is very upset about something when he’s backstage in the dressing room, but he’s going on stage and still being that funny man.”

With other set-ups between the two sides of each of the characters’ lives, there promises to be something for everyone in the new play.

It follows his first play Rock Off Tommy, also staged at the Lowther, last year, and there are hopes of being able to take both works out on tour around the country.

“Rock Off Tommy was fantastic with Lytham Players, what makes them brilliant is that as amateurs they put their heart into it,” he said.

“If The Dressing Room is a success we’ll take it out further, and Rock On Tommy too and work with am dram groups elsewhere on that.”

The Dressing Room is at Lowther Pavilion on Wednesday, at 7.30pm and at 2.30 and 7.30pm on Thursday. Call (01253) 794221 to book.
