From the voice that shook the heavens and the earth
From the mouth that spoke and all things were created

Now comes the tiny notes of a baby’s cry

The hands that stretched out the skies

And shaped Adam

Now tiny dimpled fingers that paw the air

The heart that saw beauty in every atom

And poured itself out upon the human race

Now beats erratically in a tiny breast

The eyes that saw past and future

Saw love rent by dark sin and life soaring in great salvation

Now stare in confusion at a mass of unknown shapes

Majesty, beauty and glory

Exchanged for swaddling cloths

Splendorous brilliant heaven

Exchanged for a squalid stable

So God becomes man

Such loss

Such a divesting

Such a belittling of all He is

Why?

For love

For me

For you
