There’s something special about the bond between mothers and daughters... as Beverley Mellor well knows.

Her daughters Lucy, 25, and Polly, 20, share her love of modern calligraphy and hand lettering - and, together, they are at the heart of an art renaissance.

The trio, from Lytham, host workshops and provide lettering, wall murals and design work for brands and businesses across the North West with their family business, Mellor and Rose.

Beverley said: “Calligraphy is enjoying something of a renaissance.

“In our increasingly technology based world calligraphy and hand lettering is gaining in popularity and becoming known for its mindful, wellbeing benefits.

“Picking up a pen and taking a short break from our key pads is both calming and highly creative.”

Beverley started hand lettering and tutoring from a background in design over the last 25 years, and her daughters have now followed in her footsteps.

She added: “Lucy joined me around three years ago from her marketing and photography background.

“Her energy and drive, writing all of our social media articles and generally doing all the ‘hard stuff’ has driven us forward.

“I call her ‘The Boss’!

“She was followed by Polly, who at 20 has rather incredibly got a diverse range of calligraphy and lettering projects as well as her own Instagram, @letteringwithpolly.”

The artists recently produced the large hand lettering for The Florist restaurant in Liverpool and featured in an exhibition entitled ‘The Joy of Hand Lettering’ in the city.

They have also worked with NHS therapists and counsellors as well as students and staff from Liverpool University and Blackpool Sixth Form College.

Beverley added: “Our greatest love is sharing the sheer joy and wellbeing effects of modern calligraphy and hand lettering.”

Their next workshops will be at Lytham Hall on November 4 and Vintage Sewing Bunny, St Annes, on October 29 for some Christmas calligraphy.
