Crowds flock to Wrea Green for 91-year-old event

Wrea Green was packed to the rafters for one of its most successful Field Days to date.

The annual event has enjoyed crowds for 91 years now, including thousands turning out to join the day on Saturday.

The traditional procession featuring fancy dress, dancers and a brass band started at midday ahead of an afternoon of stalls, rides and games.

New features included an afternoon tea tent as well as a vintage bikes show.

Children were entertained by Blackpool Circus School ahead of sports for all ages.

Organiser Hayley Stafford said: “It was a super day, we couldn’t have asked for more.

“The procession was a lot fuller and a lot bigger and the fair was busy.

“It was good fun, a real family fun day.

“It was the busiest I’ve seen it in 10 years, there were thousands.

“It was such a lovely day.”

Eponie Jones, 13, was crowned Rose Queen, surrounded by her retinue, Isabella ford, Isabella Yates, Eva Yates and Chloe Sprules and crown carrier Elphie Yeung.
