Lytham Festival: Il Divo close ninth year of festival

It was picnics, prosecco and perfect weather for a evening of beautiful music to close this year's Lytham Festival.

The celebrations came to a rousing finale on the green, courtesy of headline act opera crossover quartet Il Divo, and a dazzling fireworks’ display over the estuary.

Young Britain’s Got Talent singers Bring It North opened the night, with a charmingly cute set of pop, stage and screen hits.

While it was almost a case of blink and you’ll miss it for ex-EastEnders actress and Olivier Award-winner Martine McCutcheon, with an all-too-brief set which had scarcely got going before it had finished.

After Saturday’s funky grooves from Nile Rodgers and Chic, the international foursome held the proms’ concert audience in rapture with their unforgettable classics.

Each of the four tenors shared musical stories from their own pasts, as well as reflecting together on their 15 years as a group.

And the Lytham crowd - enjoying the ninth year of the festival - will surely ‘always love you’, as they thanked fans old and new for joining them on the last night of their UK tour.

Carly Paoli did the honours when it came to the finale of the night, with stunning renditions of the traditional favourites Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance and Hubert Parry’ Jerusalem getting the Prommers on their feet, Union Flags fluttering in the warm night’s breeze.

As fireworks flashed and blazed over the stage, music lovers were once more united in the festival spirit.

Bring on Lytham Festival 2019 and the 10th anniversary celebrations of this wonderful local extravaganza.
