RSC meets Poulton Drama '“ a real dream to watch

Mummy, it was awesome. Forget the reviews. What could beat a young girl's response to the RSC's (and Poulton Drama's) A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Grand Theatre?

Don’t miss the chance to see it yourself. When the RSC’s finest took to the road they took a gamble. Boy, has it paid off. Not everyone will warm to the 1940s setting or the lack of wings on the fairies (Fleetwood schoolchildren) but it works. So well it should have won a standing ovation, but perhaps our quota was exhausted at Blood Brothers at the Opera House?

And with Poulton Drama’s finest playing the Rude Mechanicals, and projecting better than some of their professional counterparts while shamelessly playing to an appreciative audience, it was seamless, a winner with all but the purists. From the stalls, Moor Park Primary pupils cheered on their favourite (and mine), Lucy Ellison as a Cabaret MC-like Puck.

It was Puck’s night, Oberon’s and Poulton Drama’s. A joy to watch, a Dream to review and a Bottom to remember (Anthony Henry). If you see nothing else make it this ; there’s a performance tonight and two tomorrow.
