The council has also announced that residents will no longer be required to visit according to their postcode and can attend on any day.

Disposal of soil and inert waste will also be permitted and permits are now available to be purchased online.

A spokesman for the council said that 'only cars may attend at the weekend' and no vans or trailers are permitted.

The spokesman added: "As a result of the Covid-19 outbreak, a number of the council’s waste services were temporarily suspended or had to adjust the way they operate. The household waste and recycling centre reopened on May 18 with a number of restrictions in place to ensure the safety of both visitors and employees."

Coun Jim Hobson, Blackpool Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate Change and the Environment, said: “I know many of our residents will welcome the further to changes how our waste and recycling centre operates.

“Our teams are doing their best to provide the support people need, all whilst ensuring things go as smoothly and safely as possible.

“As ever, we appreciate the patience shown by everyone. I would ask the public to familiarise themselves with the changes, as well as continuing to follow the restrictions that remain in place.”
