The tramway was closed over three months ago on Sunday, March 29 in an attempt to control the spread of Covid-19, but it also reflected the reduction in demand following government guidance to stay indoors.

Now, as lockdown measures are eased, Blackpool's trams are set to start running again from Sunday, July 19 as more businesses and attractions begin to reopen across the Fylde Coast.

Bus services will also be increased from Sunday, July 12, meaning certain routes will be more frequent with extra journeys in the mornings and evenings.

A spokesman for Blackpool Transport said: "As lockdown restrictions ease and more people need to make essential journeys, our trams will start running again so that we can continue to carry people as safely as possible.

"Our team are working to put extra safety measures in place and there will be changes to the number of available seats on board, as well as how you board and pay for your ticket."

Trams will run up to every 20 minutes, with the last tram being at around 7.30pm.

Slight changes will also be made to certain bus routes, including the number one bus calling at Blackpool North Train Station, and the number seven bus beginning and ending its route in St Annes Square.

"Travel guidance has changed and this means more seats will be available onboard from July 4, with customers being asked to maintain a one metre distance," Blackpool Transport added.

"Please remember that if you can, you must wear a face covering whilst using our services unless you are exempt, and you should only travel if you need to."
