Lancashire's holiday parks set to reopen in April as Haven, Pontins and more take bookings
Holiday parks across Lancashire are set to open in April if Covid-19 figures allow, the government has confirmed.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that ‘self-contained’ accommodation, such as mobile caravan parks without shared facilities, will be able to reopen from step two of the lockdown easing plan, meaning that holiday lets will provisionally be made available to open from April 12.
Among these are Haven, which runs the Cala Gran Holiday Park in Fleetwood and the Marton Mere Holiday Village in Blackpool.
A spokesman for the holiday firm said it would be welcoming families back in spring but holidays booked prior to April 12 will be rescheduled.
The spokesman said: "Following the Government announcement yesterday with regards to the roadmap out of lockdown measures, we can confirm that our parks will remain closed in England until Monday 12 April.
"We are, however pleased that the roadmap has permitted self-contained accommodation to reopen at Stage Two and we look forward to welcoming many families to enjoy a coastal break that we pride ourselves on from the 12 April across our parks in England.
"We appreciate there will be disappointed guests who were booked to stay with us during March and in early April, but we will continue to follow the guidance laid out by the Government, as we have throughout the pandemic, to ensure the health and wellbeing of the nation and the safety and security of our guests, owners and teams are our number one priority.
"We are conscious that this will have an impact on a large amount of British families, and we are currently contacting all guests affected by the closure and the options that will be available to them."
Pontins, which has a site in Southport, said it is currently 'working through' the latest government announcement and how this will affect the re-opening of its parks but advised it will be posting an update in due course
Parkdean Resorts, which runs parks in Heysham, Morecambe and Clitheroe is following a similar process in that holidays are being booked from April 12. A spokesman said the firm is 'actively contacting customers' due to travel to parks in England before that date.
Ream Hills Holiday Park, off Mythop Road in Weeton, said it is also contacting customers with holidays booked prior to April 12 but bookings after that date are being taken.
A spokesman for the park said: "We are very pleased with this welcome news, it feels like light at the end of the tunnel for what has been a very long year for all.
"We really cannot wait to welcome back all our loyal customers who have continued and do continue to support our local family run business, it means so much."
