The Newton Bluecoat CE Primary has had two youngsters suffering serious health issues this so year.

So the school’s charity committee has decided that instead of organising events to support a host of charities they will focus on two.

The tiny school recently raised £45 each for Kidneys for Life and Macmillan Cancer Support.

All the children were invited to take in their spare pennies and other loose change to fill two banners, one for each charity.

There is a pink hand printed one for Kidneys for Life, created during a charity event last summer.

And there is now a blue wellington printed one, created by the nursery children especially for the event.

A spokeswoman said: “We shall go on to do other events to continue to raise money for such important causes.”
