Fylde Council has taken the difficult decision to slash its entire line-up of summer events as Britain continues to fight against the spread of coronavirus.

A total of 11 events run by the Fylde ranger service have been cancelled throughout July and August.

Six themed treasure hunts at Lowther Gardens in Lytham, sports days at Kirkham Memorial Park and Ashton Gardens in St Annes, a teddy bear's picnic at Freckleton Memorial Park and two guided walks around Lytham and along the River Ribble will not be going ahead as planned.

A spokesman for the ranger service said: "Due to ongoing safety risks associated to COVID-19, it is with regret that we must cancel our entire summer events schedule. We apologize for any convenience. We hope to resume our events schedule as soon as it is safe to do so, and in line with government advice."

Ongoing government rules mean that people are not allowed to socialise outdoors in groups of more than six people from different households. Gatherings of more than six people should only take place if all the people involved are from two households or support bubbles.

People should also refrain from interacting with anyone outside the group they are out with, and should not hold or attend events where social distancing is difficult to maintain.
