Montgomery Academy in All Hallows Road has told a number of pupils to self-isolate after receiving confirmation that there have been two positive cases of Covid-19 within the school today (September 23).

The school says the "small number of children" who have been in direct and prolonged contact with the confirmed cases will have received an individual text asking them to stay at home for 14 days.

A spokesman for Montgomery Academy said: "We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

"Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus will be a mild illness.

"The school remains open and your child should continue to attend if they remain well."

Parents have been told not to take their children to school if they develop symptoms of Covid-19, and they should remain home for at least 10 days from the date their symptoms started.

All other household members must stay at home and self-isolate for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the household became ill.
