Five-year-old Lylia Bailey

Despite her young age, when Lylia Bailey clambers behind a stall at Clifton Hospital’s Christmas fair next month, it will be the third year she has done it.

Her mum, nurse Samantha Sargent, helps the youngster make items to sell at the fair, while the pair have also been spotted working hard at the hospital’s summer fairs too.

Sam said: “A couple of years ago Lylia said she wanted to help, so she started making Christmas decorations out of clay.

“After the first year of helping, she caught the ‘helping bug’ and also came into the hospital dressed as Rapunzel.

“We are a craft-y family, and I’m really proud she wants to help.”

Lylia, a Year One pupil at Heyhouses Endowed Church of England Primary School in St Annes, is also a whizz with Lego, and has won design competitions for the last three years at St Annes Carnival.

Last year, her decorations sold out fast, and she said she is looking forward to raising even more money at this year’s fair, which will be held from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, November 26.

“I would like to sell more decorations to help poorly people feel better when they are in hospital,” she said.

The fair is open to the public and parking free. Everyone is welcome.
