Ava springs into action for prom trick-a-thon
A talented dancer is planning to flip, twirl and jump from pier to pier to raise money for her place in a global competition.
Ava Burke, 11, from Layton, has set herself a trick-a-thon fund-raising challenge from North Pier to Central Pier in Blackpool on Easter Sunday.
The passionate young dancer attends The Dance Place, and is part of a team who have qualified to compete in the Dance World Cup in Burgos, Spain, this summer.
Ava, a pupil at Carr Head Primary School in Poulton, said: “I’m going to be doing my tricks from North Pier to Central Pier to raise money for Dance World Cup.”
Ava is among 17 girls and two boys – aged eight to 14 –who are preparing for the competition in July.
Her mum, Jessica Burke, said: “Ava has been dancing for seven years at The Dance Place Blackpool.
“She would love to be a dance or acro teacher when she’s older.
“She hopes to raise around £200 to cover her entry fees to take part in the competition.
“She’s going to be doing aerials, front aerials, back handspring and contortion from North Pier to Central Pier to raise money for the dance school.”
Lian Wray, who runs the dance studio on Rawcliffe Street, Blackpool, said: “It’s an amazing idea.
“Ava is so good at acro.
“It can be really hard raising money, especially at the moment, so this is something different.
“Everyone is still training really hard at home but we are hoping to get back in the sudio as soon as we can.”
