Wyre council workers clear up debris after December's storms

That’s according to Wyre Council, which also says its officers cleared another 20 tonnes of debris from the roads and footpaths in the affected areas.

It’s after the area was hit with devastating storms throughout December as storms Desmond, Eva and Frank swept the borough.

It caused power cuts and homes and businesses to be flooded as the storms hit areas including St Michaels, Churchtown and Garstang.

Flood defences burst on the River Wyre leaving more than 100 families out of their homes and children unable to go to school.

Due to the bad weather, the council ended up recycling more than five tonnes of damaged electrical goods and eight tonnes of damaged animal feed.

And now with heavy rain predicted for this week, the council is asking residents with sandbags to keep them in a dry place, preferably off the ground, for future use.

Residents are being urged to share their experiences to “shape” flood risk management in the area by attending a drop-in roadshow.

The roadshow, which also includes the Environment Agency and the area’s fire service, is being held in St Michaels tomorrow at The Grapes pub on Garstang Road.
