A Fylde charity is asking for stores in St Annes to donate the proceeds of their 5p bag charges to it.
Friends of Fylde Community Link has written to St Annes Chamber of Trade with the plea.
The current figures indicate the charge will generate over £120m every year
Margaret Trott, chairman of the charity, said although businesses with less than 250 employees aren’t required to charge the 5p, they could if they wanted to, but the Government expects anybody who does charge the 5p to donate the net proceeds to ‘good environmental causes.’
She said: “The current figures indicate the charge will generate over £120m every year. As 1p of the charge is VAT that means over £90m is available.
‘We’re currently raising funds for a new bus for the waste recycling team and if we can get enough support for this project, we hope to continue with other projects’
