Blackpool Council is also hosting a series of events designed to raise awareness of the need for adopters in and appeal for ‘forever families’ in the North West, particularly those in the harder to place categories.
Lighting up National Adoption Week, Blackpool Tower is projecting ‘National Adoption Week’ in the Blackpool Tower heart every evening this week until 8pm.
Our priority is to successfully match our children with the right families and we currently have no waiting list
A dedicated information event for prospective adopters will take place on Thursday 22 October at The Hilton Hotel, Blackpool from 3pm – 7pm.
People interested in adopting a child can to come along and have an informal discussion with our friendly team. In aid of National Adoption Week, a number of adopters will be on hand to answer any questions and talk about their experiences.
Cllr John Jones, cabinet member with responsibility for Children’s Service, said: “National Adoption Week 2015 highlights the plight of these vulnerable children and to help them find forever families.
“We would love to hear from those who are interested in adopting a child, and particularly those who would like to find out more about children in the harder to place category.
“Sadly, the children who find themselves in this category typically wait a much longer time to find their forever families. This includes sibling groups, children aged 4 and above, those with complex or additional needs and children from black and ethnic minority families.
“Our priority is to successfully match our children with the right families and we currently have no waiting list.”
If you’ve still got question, on Friday 23 October, there will be a live Twitter Q&A session from 1pm – 2.30pm. Direct questions to @BpoolCouncil where team members will be ready and waiting to talk adoption.
Throughout the week, there will be dedicated stories, news and blog posts added to www.adoptwithblackpool.com. With interviews and case studies from adopters, birth children, social workers and panel members to name a few– the aim is to give a real insight of the adoption journey from the very start.
