Anchorsholme Primary School choristers raise the roof!

Youngsters at the academy have secured a date in the final of the county-wide ‘Last Choir Singing’ contest after coming out on top in the battle of Blackpool’s best, organised by Blackpool Music Service.

Anchorsholme and runners-up Norbreck Primary will represent the town at the grand final at King George’s Hall in Blackburn on June 16.

The prize of ‘Artistic Expression’ went to St Nicholas CE Primary School.

Eleven primary school choirs performed at the event in front of a capacity audience at the Tower Ballroom. It is the fourth time in six years Anchorsholme have scooped Choir of the Year.

Anchorsholme Academy’s headteacher, Graeme Dow, said: “Our choir of 28 children, aged 7 to 11, has been practising extremely hard for this competition.

“The children’s enthusiasm and effort has been overwhelming.

“We had great fun performing at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom, and are absolutely delighted to win Choir of the Year and be going through to the Last Choir Singing Final at King George’s Hall in Blackburn.”

George Critchley, of True Bearing Chartered Financial Planners which organises the ‘Last Choir Singing’ event, said: “The children did a great job on their performances, we are so pleased to be involved in this even.

“I can’t wait to see these schools performing with our other heat winners at King George’s Hall later this year.”

The winners of Last Choir Singing will take home £1,000 in musical equipment vouchers.

Holy Family School and Thames Primary were also singled out for praise for their performances.
