Conservative candidate Chris Dixon will be up against Labour’s Gareth Nash when voters in Ansdell go to the polls on Thursday, August 2.

Mr Eaves, a former leader of the council, represented Ansdell for the Conservatives for 11 years up to April when he stood down for health reasons. He died in June.

Chris Dixon, a former Gazette and Lytham St Annes Express journalist who now works as senior caseworker for Fylde MP Mark Menzies, said: “It is vital we keep Ansdell at the forefront of minds at Fylde Council.

“Ansdell is looking fantastic at the moment thanks to the efforts of the In Bloom team, volunteers at the train station and the Friends of Lytham Library, who have all worked so hard to improve the area.

“I want to make sure fly-tipping is stopped and cleared up quickly should it happen, and to make sure potholes are filled in quickly. I promise to fight for the very best for Ansdell.”

Like Chris, Gareth Nash is a father-of-two. He lives in Lytham and is a former governor of Lytham St Annes Technology and Performing Arts College.

He also sees potholes as a key feature of his campaign, along with the environment, local services and schools and a better deal for the north of England against the south.

Gareth was founder-member of a small co-operative business saving local services from closure. He has helped raise several million pounds so that communities can create energy from wind and water turbines.

He is also active in the Co-operative Party and says in his election leaflet: “My years of experience working with councils on the Fylde coast mean I am ideally suited to represent Ansdell’s residents.”
