£12m Prom apartment plan prompts mixed reactions
Developers revealed plans for a £12m apartment block on Blackpool Promenade which they hope to start building as soon as possible.
Work is already under way to clear the site and a planning application has now been officially lodged with Blackpool Council for the scheme on the site of a derelict nursing home.

A consortium made up of hotelier Tony Banks and businessmen Ron and Dave Richardson is behind the ambitious proposal for a five-to-eight storey building with one, two and three-bedroomed apartments.
Here’s what you had to say..:
Excellent - let’s hope they are sold to people who move in to them and if any of them become buy to let the caveat is they can not be let to anyone who is unemployed and living solely off us - the tax payers! Blackpool needs a more diverse economy to survive, these could be nice apartments for professionals; we need a Council which can attract other businesses to the town, a Council who run the town as Blackpool PLC, led by a successful businessman who can transform it into a vibrant economic success, move it away from the bottom of all the national league tables such as low life expectancy, low house prices etc
Jason Cotillard
There are no jobs for professionals in Blackpool though. You need a reason for people to move there and there simply isn’t one. You could build the nicest flats ever but who on earth would want to live there?

Hide AdGood idea as the developments continue to move up the Prom rather than just doing one end of the prom

This has been needed for years
John Keen
Great news. I always wondered why only hotels lined the front and not nice apartments to make use of the sea view
Natalie Whitehead
Money needs to be well spent from Squires Gate right up to North Pier before I’d be paying mega money for a posh pad

Now which would you all prefer...leaving these empty derelict arson attracting buildings and run the risk of something serious happening or replaced with lovely luxury apartments that I’m sure the developers have worked hard to have designed in keeping with the area?

Hide AdWhy replace one eyesore with another eyesore? Blackpool has history and it doesn’t come in concrete blocks
Kath Parkinson
That design is so 1960’s that, if it had been built then, it would have been demolished now as a complete eyesore. Please present a design in keeping with the current century
Catbells
They say it will provide 100 jobs but for who and how long? Do they mean for Blackpool people?
Susan Ash
This is not a council project it’s three independent people who are trying to make Blackpool Prom look a better place

Front looks great now, time the rest of the town has a massive makeover
Sue Toomer
I think the building will look great if built. Especially on an evening like tonight. It’s glorious on the prom.
Paul Smyth
I think a round of applause should be given to these business men who are not only willing to invest their money but also their time into this project
Ms C
It is an ugly design, an eyesore to replace an eyesore
Ian Stanworth
Anything is better than the mess that is there now

Hide AdI think these apartments are clearly designed to encourage retirees etc to the area, perhaps when they no longer are able to cope with bigger properties. Ideally placed and definitely an asset. Can this not be a way forward for the rest of Blackpool Promenade?

Nowt wrong with improving anything in life

Plans are great, let’s hope it actually happens and the owners aren’t just trying to get plans approved to attempt to sell for more as many others have done.
Donna Cheltenham
Get it done and hopefully everyone else will follow suit
Tony Mulligan
Always on the prom. What about the rest?
Ian Long
Well done. Get it built. What the town needs.
