Police were called to the scene by the ambulance service at around 8.30am.

Detectives say they are in the early stages of their inquiries and it is too soon to say whether the death was suspicious.

They are treating the death as “unexplained”.

Neighbours expressed their shock of hearing about the baby’s death.

One man said: “There has been a police car sat outside the house all day.

“I don’t know the family they haven’t been there long.”

Another neighbour who only wanted to be known as Sharon, said: “I saw two police and an ambulance when I went to work at 8.30am.

“The ambulance flew off when I was in the corner shop.

“One of the neighbours came up and said he wasn’t sure if it was the baby.

“A few of us were saying it could be a cot death, the baby is young enough.

“It is terrible news you don’t expect this to happen.

“They haven’t been there that long and it’s been pretty quiet since they arrived.”

Last night a police officer was sat outside the terraced house in a police vehicle.

Neighbours were in the street sharing their shock and grief eager to find out what had happened.

Police said no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Det Insp Nick Connaughton, of Blackpool’s Public Protection Unit, said: “At this moment we are treating the sudden death of this baby boy as unexplained.

“I would like to stress that we are in the very early stages of our inquiries and we have not made any arrests.”
