Tests are being carried out by researchers around the Preston New Road and Roseacre sites to give a baseline figure to which any changes in the future if fracking takes place can be compared. And a health study has begun on the population near the sites.

Fylde MP Mark Menzies has demanded the Government ensures shale gas well monitoring is ‘regular and robust’ now the process has been given the go-ahead.

He wrote to the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and met the Environment Agency to call for the strongest regulations.

Mr Menzies said: “One of the things I spoke about was the need for regular on-the-ground inspections.”
