Beauty therapists in Lytham have organised their own Calendar Girl photo shoot in a bid to relay the naked truths of cancer.
Maison of Beauty staff hope to raise up to £10,000 for charity after being inspired by one long-standing client of the shop, Karen Cope, who was diagnosed with cancer.
Another client, Sharon Noye has recently been given the all-clear and features in the calendar too in aid of Cancer Research UK.
When salon manager Dawn Wild, told her team her idea to raise money for charity, she was met with a few understandable concerns.
She said: “I got a few funny looks to begin with but once we spoke about it, the girls were happy to do it.
“They knew it would be tasteful as it is for charity and is representing the shop.
“We had a good laugh doing it and a few glasses of wine too!”
The calendar has been no easy feat for Dawn and the girls at the South Westby Street salon, with the shoots taking the best part of six months to complete.
Despite the time needed to shoot the calendar, Dawn feels that participating in efforts like this are vital in order to ensure that money and awareness is raised for the illness.
She said: “Cancer is something that affects everyone at one point or another, we have had a lot of clients come in and tell us stories of their ordeal.
“People don’t realise how many people are affected so I thought if we could make a calendar and try raise between £8 to £10,000 then that would be great.”
The calendar went to print two weeks ago and the beauty therapists still have another 700 to sell.
They have managed to secure sponsorship from 11 Lytham-based businesses with each sponsoring one month of the calendar.
Businesses include Clifton’s Gift and Jewellery, No-Match Electronic Cigarettes, PWL Decoarting Services, Capri and Lifehouse Lytham.
Calendars can be bought for £9.99 from any of the sponsoring businesses or at Maison of Beauty in Lytham or Thornton.
