Bigger and better Club Day planned for Lytham

Club day’s 120th anniversary celebrations at the hall last year proved such a success that officials have decided to do it all again on Saturday – but better.

Following the traditional morning procession, starting from Station Road at 10.15am and following an extensive route through the town centre up to around 12.30pm, the Hall section of the day will begin with a display of vintage cars from 1pm.

The crowning of the Rose Queen, procession of visiting queens and presentation of the parade trophies begins at 1.30pm and from around 2.15pm, a cavalcade of entertainment is promised.

St Bede’s RC High School student Jenny Pope, 14, is rose queen elect.

John Porter, chairman of the organising committee, said: “There was very positive feedback to the afternoon events being held at the Hall last year so we are delighted to be back there and we look forward to another very memorable day.”

Among the entertainers will be Jennie Luke, originally from Lytham and now based in London, and her My Favourite Character team offering stories and plays for youngsters.

There will also be a display by the Fylde K9 Dancers dog display team, while through the afternoon on the Hall’s front lawn, Park View4U community team will be hosting a pond dipping session.

There will also be children’s sports events, fairground rides and donkeys and Lytham Ecumenical Partnership while hold a songs of praise-type concert in the marquee from 3.30pm.

An afternoon packed with music of all kinds will lead into evening performance by the Toll Bar Band from 6pm and the Panama Steel Band from 8 until 10pm.

Refreshments will include a hog roast, barbecue, vintage tea tent, Champagne and Pimms, ice creams and candy floss, although organisers say everyone is welcome to bring along their own picnic and gazebo.

Marianne Blaauboer, Lytham Hall’s activity plan officer, said: “We were thrilled to get so many positive responses to Club Day being held in the historic parkland at the Hall last year.

“It was brilliant seeing so many people through the gates, many of whom professed to not having visited before. “
