Blackpool care home is '˜outstanding'

A Blackpool care home has been rated '˜outstanding' after an inspection by the Care Quality Commission.

The health watchdog ranked the quality of care provided to elderly and disabled people at Belsfield House, Carlin Gate, North Shore, a cut above the rest following an inspection in March.

The service was found to be ‘safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led’, with ‘extremely experienced’ and ‘exceptionally caring’ staff.

The report also found the management team at the home to be ‘compassionate, solid role models’ with ‘a hands-on approach’.

It read: “Leadership was outstanding and the provider understood the care businessremarkably well. People described leadership at the home as exceptional. They told us they found that the registered manager was very approachable.

“There was a welcoming, calm atmosphere and people approached staff and the management team in a relaxed manner.”

The report marks another success for the care home, which was recently awarded the prestigious ‘Beacon’ status by the Gold Standards Framework, which assesses the quality of care provided to people living with dementia.

Paula Ball, manager at Belsfield House, said: “We are extremely proud for our residents and staff, and we see this as part of our continuing evolution to improve the standard of care within our group of homes.”

Debbie Westhead, deputy chief inspector for adult social care in the north, said: “This is a fantastic care home and there are many examples of outstanding practice that are clearly helping in delivering an excellent service.

“We were particularly impressed with the registered manager’s commitment to providing quality and responsive care to people using this service and empowering staff to do the same.

Residents and relatives told us repeatedly about what an excellent service this was and how management and staff often go above and beyond to ensure their needs are met.

“This is a real achievement for the whole team at Belsfield House.”
